Mikaela Shiffrin Gets 7-Word Message From USA Teammate on Olympic Gold
Team USA skier Mikaela Shiffrin finally ended her medal drought at the Winter Olympics, finishing first in the women’s slalom event on Wednesday to claim gold.
She recorded a first-run time of 47.13 on the slope to begin the competition. Shiffrin then followed that with a 51.97 in her second run, giving her a total of 1:39.10 to take over the leaderboard.
Switzerland’s Camille Rast finished second with her time of 1:40.60, and Shiffrin beat that time by +1.50 for a dominant performance at Milano Cortina. Sweden’s Anna Larsson Swenn finished third with her total time of 1:40.81 to win the silver medal. Team USA’s next-closest competitor was Paula Moltzan, finishing eighth overall in the event.

Shriffin’s gold medal win drew plenty of attention with various individuals sharing their reactions to Wednesday’s slalom victory.
Among them was Shriffin’s teammate Breezy Johnson, who won Team USA’s first gold at these Olympics in the women’s alpine skiing downhill event earlier this week. She posted a short message consisting of seven words and an abbreviation on her official Instagram Story to celebrate Shiffrin’s significant accomplishment.
“So proud of this lady!!! 2x slalom champ!!!!” Johnson wrote across a slide, sharing the Instagram post below, which she uploaded a week ago.
That previous IG post arrived after Shiffrin and Johnson failed to reach the podium in the women’s combined event at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Johnson’s early downhill run kept them within contention, but Shiffrin’s slalom portion of the event didn’t go quite as well.
She and Johnson finished in fourth place, just barely missing a bronze medal, which went to their USA teammates, Jackie Wiles and Paula Moltzan.
Shiffrin also had a disappointing result in her attempt at an individual medal earlier in the week. During the women’s giant slalom event on Sunday, she finished in 11th place with a total time of 2:14.42 across her runs down the slope.
However, her third event proved successful and gave Shiffrin a third gold medal, helping her solidify her spot among the best to ever compete in the sport.
