MLB Insider Predicts Yankees to Trade $37 Million Starting Pitcher
The New York Yankees are looking to shed some payroll after signing Max Fried and trading for Cody Bellinger.
FanSided’s MLB insider Robert Murray appeared on “The Baseball Insiders” podcast Thursday afternoon, and he mentioned Marcus Stroman could very well be wearing a different uniform in 2025.
“I would also imagine (a) Marcus Stroman trade would appear more likely than not,” Murray said on the podcast at the 8:45 mark.
The Yankees rotation is essentially set in stone with Fried slotting in behind Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón. Luis Gil and Clarke Schmidt are young starters who will take the Nos. 4 and. 5 spots.
If Stroman is traded by the Yankees, he will be on three teams in as many seasons. In 30 appearances (29 starts), he threw a 4.31 ERA after being acquired in free agency prior to the start of 2024.
Stroman’s tenure in New York has been disappointing, as he didn’t have the dominant pitching repertoire he did in the past. He finished 2024 with a 6.6 K/9, the second-lowest tally in his career.
The Yankees have Stroman under team control for two more seasons, so he could still net a decent return. However, teams interested in acquiring him may ask for the Yankees to retain salary.
If the Yankees do retain salary, they could use it as a bargaining chip to negotiate a higher-rated player/prospect or pry away someone else.
Stroman has appeared in two All-Star games and won a Gold Glove in his career, meaning one of the other 29 teams in baseball could unlock some serious potential late in his career.
