MLB Insider Reveals ‘Big Reason’ Alex Bregman Signed With Red Sox
The long, often annoying Alex Bregman sweepstakes ended Wednesday night when the star infielder reportedly agreed to join the Boston Red Sox.
Bregman’s deal, which includes deferred money, reportedly will pay him $120 million over three seasons and features opt-outs after each year. The 30-year-old rejected a Detroit Tigers offer that included more money but fewer opt-outs and a lower average salary.
However, money wasn’t the only factor in Bregman choosing the Red Sox over other suitors, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman.
“One big reason Bregman makes sense for Red Sox (and one reason why he chose them): 1.240 career OPS at Fenway,” Heyman wrote on the X platform.

Bregman’s numbers at Fenway Park are nothing to sniff at.
In addition to the impressive OPS, Bregman owns a .375 average, seven homers and nine doubles in 80 at-bats in Boston. If Bregman enjoys a huge offensive season in 2025, he could opt out next offseason and cash in with an even better contract.
Still, the Bregman signing creates a separate set of questions for the Red Sox, including uncertainty over where top prospect Kristian Campbell will play. Rostering too much talent is a good problem to have, though.
