Mom Opens 7-Year-Old’s Purse, Can’t Believe What’s Inside: “Just in Case”
When a mom checked her seven-year-old’s pink purse, she was expecting to find something simple—maybe a tube of lip gloss, a Pokémon card, or even a stray crayon.
Instead, she found something that left her in stitches: a toy ray gun and a neon green rocket, tucked neatly inside.
Marquita McIntire, from Central California, shared the discovery on TikTok. In the text overlay she laughed: “When you go to check your 7-year-old’s purse, this is what’s in it.” The video quickly took off, racking up over 5.5 million views, as parents and TikTok users alike flooded the comments with laughter and their own hilarious anecdotes.
McIntire explained that her daughter, Charlie, had attended a space-themed birthday party where the futuristic toys were among the party favors. But rather than leaving them at home, Charlie decided they were must-have accessories for the day.
“She decided to carry them around in her purse just in case of an alien invasion,” McIntire told Newsweek. “I was laughing so hard and showed my husband. I expected to see lip gloss or a Pokémon card.”
After millions of viewers watched on TikTok, people headed to the comments to share their reactions, with many celebrating Charlie’s creativity and readiness for intergalactic emergencies.
“This is girlhood,” wrote one user simply. Another, Kaity Sims, said: “My 4-year-old has a Fisher-Price play knife under his pillow sometimes. He stays ready.” Viewer Boogie, put it best and said: “Only the essentials.”
Charlie’s pragmatic purse packing reminded other parents of their children’s imaginative quirks. A TikToker named Kenzie said: “My daughter used to have a coin purse full of acorns.” Another parent revealed their child once packed a purse with rubber ducks “for protection.”
“Always be prepared, we live in a crazy world,” joked 5thgenidaho, while Jessica Raley laughed: “She knows what’s up.”
McIntire said she never expected the post to go viral, but she is thrilled that the moment resonated with so many people, and prompted some laughs.
“I felt like it was something funny that occurred and that other parents could relate to,” she said. “Kids have an amazing and hilarious imagination. I’m surprised it went as viral as it did, but I’m loving the similar stories from other parents.”
This isn’t the first time a young person’s purse has left the internet in stitches. Earlier this year another mom found a small silver-colored plastic knife in her three-year-old daughter’s bag. While another dad was “crying laughing” after finding a sheet of paper titled “All About My Dad” in his four-year-old’s bag, including a note that his favorite food is broccoli and he likes to drink Kool-Aid.
