A simple school exchange is going viral after one mom overheard her child explain his family—and a classmate’s joyful response caught her completely off guard.
In a post shared by user @meowsminion on Threads, the mom recalled hearing another child ask her son where his dad was. Without hesitation, her son replied, “I don’t have a dad. I have another mom.”

The other kid paused to let the information sink in. “Then exclaimed enviously, ‘You have TWO moms?!?! LUCKY!!!!!’”
The moment left the parent touched. “That kid must have a pretty awesome mom,” she laughed.
At the time of writing, the post has received over 43,000 likes and shares. In the comments, users shared stories of kids reacting with curiosity, delight and often unfiltered honesty when encountering families that look different from their own.
One parent shared a memory from when her child was 4 years old and eager to invite new friends over. When she explained that the friends had two dads, her daughter was initially confused—especially since her own mom had recently given birth.
“I told her there were a lot of ways for a family to have a baby,” the parent wrote. Her daughter’s response? “Tell me all of them.”
Another commenter recalled a moment that still makes them laugh years later. When their daughter told a friend her parents’ names were Erin and Sheila, the other child tried to make sense of it by assuming one must be a dad named Aaron.
When corrected, the kid reportedly looked horrified and blurted out, “YOUR DAD’S NAME IS SHEILA?!!!” The parent said the memory remains one of their favorites nearly a decade on.
For some families, the normalization of “two moms” happens so early that it barely registers. One parent wrote that when her son was around nine, a friend asked him what it was like to have two moms.
“He shrugged and said, ‘It’s just normal,’” she recalled. “‘But they talk about periods a lot.’” She joked that she nearly “died laughing”—and added that, to her recollection, they really didn’t.
Other commenters shared how even casual moments can turn into what feels like an unexpected flex. One mom said her daughter was once told at the pool to “ask your mom,” only to reply innocently, “Which one?”
Educators chimed in too. A former pre-K teacher said they’d taught multiple classrooms with several families headed by two moms and confirmed a consistent theme: other kids weren’t confused or judgmental—they were “very jealous.”
“The kids think it’s so cool,” the teacher wrote, noting that many children love the idea of having “double moms” and even believing you might get to choose.
