Morgan Nick Update Expected 29 Years After She Vanished: Arkansas Police
Police in Alma, Arkansas are set to announce new updates regarding the disappearance of Morgan Nick, a case that has remained unsolved for nearly three decades.
The 6-year-old vanished on June 9, 1995, while attending a Little League baseball game at the Alma Baseball Complex. Despite ongoing investigations, her whereabouts remain unknown.
Alma Police Chief Jeff Pointer has reportedly said that “significant developments” in the case will be revealed during a press briefing scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, at 10:30 a.m. at the Alma Police Department.
Morgan Nick was last seen playing with two friends in a parking lot near the baseball field, catching fireflies. Her friends returned, but Morgan did not.
Witnesses reported seeing a man talking to her near a red camper truck, and she was last seen wearing a green Girl Scout T-shirt, blue denim shorts, and white tennis shoes. Despite numerous leads, police have been unable to determine what happened to her after that night.
The case drew national attention and prompted involvement from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Arkansas State Police.
Over the years, various potential breakthroughs—such as digs and arrests related to the case—have raised hopes of solving the mystery, but they have not led to Morgan’s recovery.
In 1996, Colleen Nick, Morgan’s mother, founded the Morgan Nick Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping families of missing children and raising awareness about child abduction.
Colleen Nick has remained a vocal advocate for her daughter and other missing children, working to keep the case in the public eye. In 2023, a documentary titled Still Missing Morgan was released on Hulu, further shining a spotlight on the case.
One notable lead in the case emerged in recent years, when investigators named Billy Jack Lincks as a person of interest in 2021.
Lincks was convicted of sexual indecency after attempting to abduct a child two months after Morgan Nick’s disappearance. The victim told police that Lincks, who died in prison in 2000, drove a similar vehicle to the one linked to Morgan’s disappearance, per ABC News.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the upcoming announcement is related to this potential evidence, but it may represent one of the most significant updates since Morgan’s disappearance 29 years ago.
Newsweek has contacted the Alma Police Department for comment via email outside of standard working hours.
