Thursday features some of the best Thanksgiving games in recent memory, starting with the Green Bay Packers securing a 31-24 victory over the Detroit Lions in a massive NFC North showdown.
Following that was arguably the most anticipated game of the regular season in terms of viewership, as the Kansas City Chiefs traveled to Dallas to take on the Cowboys—marking a homecoming for Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.
Before the 4:30 p.m. EST kickoff, the stage was set with a stunning rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, which drew widespread attention after CBS Sports aired the trumpet performance by Anthony Barrington.
“A beautiful rendition of the national anthem,” NFL on CBS posted. “Now let’s play some football.”

Football fans reacted to the unique Thanksgiving Day performance, which featured a loud “Chiefs” chant toward the end of the anthem. While that chant occurs at all Chiefs home games, it was surprisingly audible throughout Cowboys Stadium.
“Love seeing the American flag I love hearing the national anthem but I definitely love seeing the big beautiful United States of America flag,” a fan said.
Someone else added, “I am NOT thankful for Chiefs fans yelling “CHIEFS” during the national anthem when it gets to the “home of the brave” part.”
Another person wrote, “The no words national anthem made the CHIEFS stand out even better.”
“Who would’ve thought that watching the national anthem that there would be more chiefs fans there than cowboys fans?” One more fan commented.
Kansas City enters the game at 6-5 overall, currently on the outside looking in at the AFC playoff picture. The Cowboys are in a similar position, standing at 5-5-1 and also just outside the NFC playoff bracket. That means this matchup—and the games that follow for both teams—will be crucial.
