Who the best shooting guard is in the NBA is officially a non-starter.
Narrowly receiving the most votes for the highest honor at his position a year ago, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards edged out the rest of the field, garnering 33% of votes in the 2024-25 NBA league poll, voted on by standing general managers in the NBA.
However, this upcoming season’s poll was not even close.
On Thursday, Oct. 9, the NBA announced the results of the 2025-26 season poll, which saw Edwards garner 70% of votes as the best shooting guard in the league. The next closest vote-getter was Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell with 13% of votes. Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander were next, receiving 7% of votes each.

The growing sentiment favoring Edwards comes on the heels of a transcendent season from Edwards, who became one of the best three-point shooters in the league. Last season, Edwards led the NBA with 320 3-pointers made in 79 games played. Despite the high volume of threes attempted ( a league-high 811), Edwards finished with an impressive 39.5% conversion rate from long range.

Edwards was also the youngest player in NBA history to eclipse 300 or more 3-pointers in a single season at just 23 years old. His efforts helped lead a Timberwolves team back to the Western Conference Finals despite the franchise moving on from a pillar player in Karl-Anthony Towns, the franchise’s previous record holder for several three-point shooting statistics.
Minnesota was voted to finish fourth overall in the Western Conference in the league poll behind the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, No. 2 Denver Nuggets and No. 3 Houston Rockets.
