While it was one of the more fun events on Saturday night in the past, it has turned into a snooze fest. While the NBA is beloved, All-Star weekend necessarily isn’t, and neither is the Skills Challenge.

Fans on social media expressed their dissatisfaction with the Skills Challenge.

Here’s what fans had to say about the first event of Saturday night.

The Skills Challenge was one thing, but all eyes immediately turned to Spurs stars Chris Paul and Victor Wembanaya. The two were disqualified from the event after the two-star players tried to ‘hack’ the Skills Challenge by throwing up shots quickly without trying to make them save time.

Boos started to reign down from the fans at the Chase Center. Both players thought they were following the rule book but were later disqualified for violating the rules by not attempting actual shots.

For most of its existence, the Skills Challenge was an individual event where players made their way through a basketball obstacle course as quickly as possible. In 2022, however, the NBA decided to turn it into a team competition, and this year, four teams of two will compete.

This year’s Skills Challenge was divided into three phases. Each phase conferred a certain number of “Challenge Points” to the winner, and the team with the most Challenge Points at the end took home the trophy.

The three phases the teams needed to go through were passing, shooting, and dribbling, the three keys to the game.

The four teams that were included were Team Cavaliers, featuring Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley, who ended up winning the event; Team Warriors, featuring Moses Moody and Draymond Green; and Team Rooks, featuring Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr.

Team Cavaliers, which featured Mitchell and Mobley, were the winners of 2025.

The cities of Oakland and San Francisco have the All-Star festivities this weekend. It was their first time doing so since 2000.
