NBA World Reacts to Legendary Broadcaster, Coach Hubie Brown Calling Final Game

Longtime NBA coach and broadcaster Hubie Brown is finally hanging up his career. Brown, 91, is calling it quits following his broadcast of the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers game today.

Brown is one of the more beloved members of the NBA community and his impact on the sport can’t be overstated. The entire NBA family will miss him and his voice calling the games we all love.

His first professional head coaching opportunity was with the Kentucky Colonels of the American Basketball Association. Eventually, Brown left to coach the Atlanta Hawks, rejoining the NBA.

After a stint with Atlanta, Brown made his way to the New York Knicks in 1982. Brown stayed in New York until 1986 when he was fired by the Knicks.

The veteran stayed away from coaching for 16 years before he joined the Memphis Grizzlies as the head coach in 2002. Concerns about his age and health appeared and he unexpectedly eventually resigned in 2004.

Brown was introduced to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005 for his contributions to basketball. The longtime coach and broadcast is one of the more memorable members of the NBA family and his contributions to basketball are apparent.

During his broadcasting career, Brown called 18 NBA Finals between TV and radio. However, the veteran said that he was always nervous even with all the experience that he had.

“You’re always nervous,” Brown said. “That’s me. I don’t worry about anybody else. Because you want to be able to paint the picture, you want to be able to educate the fan to another level of expertise, and you realize it’s a team doing it, not yourself.”

Ahead of the game, the entire NBA community showed a ton of love to Brown for his accomplishments. Brown even reflected on his longtime career with basketball while broadcasting with Mike Breen.

“First of all, it’s 50 years that went by so fast. You turn around and can’t believe it.”

Even ahead of his final game, the only thing on his mind was basketball. Brown didn’t want praise or admiration, even if everyone was going to give it to him.

“He’s not interested in people showering him with love and tributes,” Breen said. “But the goal is to let him analyze the game like he always does, teach the game to the viewers, but at the same time pay him the tribute that he deserves, because he’s given his life to the game.”

Brown will be heavily missed and we congratulate him on an incredible career.
