Nebraska Coach Firing Hints at Major Shift in Dylan Raiola’s Transfer Plans
It’s safe to assume the 2025 season didn’t pan out the way the Nebraska Cornhuskers had planned.
The team finished 7-5 and lost three of its last four games, and star quarterback Dylan Raiola — a former five-star signal-caller — missed the final three games of the year with a broken right fibula injury he suffered against USC.

And while most would take solace in the fact that Raiola will be back at full strength next season — head coach Matt Rhule’s fourth with the program — there’s been concern that Raiola will enter the NCAA transfer portal and be playing elsewhere in 2026.
While the second-year passer hasn’t made a final decision on his playing future, the personnel move the Cornhuskers made this weekend likely hinted at what’s to come regarding the 6-foot-3 sophomore.

Nebraska fired offensive line coach Donovan Raiola, the uncle of the star QB, on Saturday, according to a report from On3. Donovan had been with the school since 2022 The Cornhuskers are hiring Georgia Tech offensive line coach Geep Wade as his replacement.
In two seasons, Raiola is 13-9 as the Huskers’ starter, including 6-3 this season. He’s thrown for 4,819 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions during his time in Lincoln.
Donovan’s departure isn’t the only hit the coaching staff took recently. The school was targeting Tulane defensive coordinator Vince Kehres for the same position, but he’s since taken the DC job with Syracuse.
On3 reported that Nebraska associate head coach Phil Snow is expected to fill the vacant DC role. He served as defensive coordinator at Temple, Baylor, and the Carolina Panthers when Rhule was their head coach.
