New Details Revealed About Cleveland Browns’ Interest in Russell Wilson
The Cleveland Browns are one of the few teams left searching for a new starting quarterback. While they could simply draft either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders at No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, they have been exploring the free agent market a lot.
Russell Wilson is a name that they have shown interest in. They even brought him in for a visit, signaling that they are legitimate interested in signing him.
If Wilson is the Browns’ No. 1 option, they received some good news on Friday night.

Another team that has been interested in Wilson is the New York Giants. However, they may very well be out of the running.

On Friday night, the Giants agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with free agent quarterback Jameis Winston. It seems unlikely that New York would double down on aging veteran quarterbacks.
With Winston, who played the 2024 season with Cleveland, signing with the Giants, the Browns seem like one of the best potential landing spots for Wilson.
Now, the question becomes, what kind of money would it take for Cleveland to sign Wilson?
Tony Grossi, an analyst covering the Browns, has revealed what kind of contract the veteran quarterback is looking to receive.
“I think the Browns feel that Russell Wilson is a little too expensive for their tastes right now. He’s reportedly asking for $20 to $30 million dollars,” Grossi said.
That contract is pretty expensive for the 36-year-old signal caller.

As for the length of contract Wilson wants, that has not been reported. If it were a one-year deal, that could be more doable for a team like Cleveland who may not want to invest long-term money into a veteran quarterback.
During the 2024 season with the AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson completed 63.7 percent of his pass attempts for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also ran for 155 yards and two more scores.
Wilson may be 36 years old, but he’s still capable of playing at a high level.
Would the Browns be better off signing a player like Wilson or drafting one of the top quarterback options in the NFL Draft? That is the question that Andrew Berry and the front office will need to answer.
Expect to hear more rumors about Wilson and Cleveland. It’s an intriguing match, but the contract demands might be a dealbreaker for the Browns.
