New Jersey ICE Escapees: What We Know
🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur.
At least four migrants are missing from the Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark after a major disturbance, according to several reports.
Unrest among detainees reportedly led to one group tearing down a wall in a dormitory area, according to NJ.com. Detainees allegedly fashioned makeshift ropes from bedsheets and descended from a third-floor window in an apparent bid to escape,
Reports indicate that approximately 50 detainees participated in the incident, which was triggered by frustration over the quality and delivery of meals.
“It’s about the food, and some of the detainees were getting aggressive and it turned violent,” Mustafa Cetin, an immigration attorney who represents a migrant inside the detention center told NJ.com
“Based on what he told me it was an outer wall, not very strong, and they were able to push it down.”
Newsweek has contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for comment.
