The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wrapped up their season on Saturday, Jan. 3, with a win over the Carolina Panthers, but it wasn’t enough to get them to the playoffs.
The Bucs, with their 8-9 record, are out of the playoffs for the 2025-26 season and looking to regroup for their next go. It marks the first time since 2019 that the Buccaneers haven’t made it to the postseason.
Considering the Buccaneers’ disappointing season and lack of a postseason run, there’s been plenty of talk in NFL circles that perhaps head coach Todd Bowles’ time with the team is up.
Bowles has served as the head coach of Tampa Bay since the 2022 season, and before then, he was the team’s defensive coordinator from 2019 to 2021, according to team research. So, a firing would be a large change for the franchise.
Now, however, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bowles’ job is secure. Schefter appeared on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown and gave some insider information on the Bowles situation. He said that the Glazer Family doesn’t want to switch things up, and they believe in the current structure of the team.

“Yeah, let’s take it through some of these scenarios,” he said on ESPN. “We’ll start with Todd Bowles, and he’s won three straight divisions, and could win a fourth straight division today (he did not), depending on the Saints-Falcons result. The Buccaneers’ owners do not want to make a change.”
Schefter added, “They want to keep Todd Bowles, and the feeling around the league is, ultimately, that they will keep them. We are leaning safe on Todd Bowles staying in Tampa, but let’s see how it works out.”
Plus, Bowles is expected to speak with reporters on Monday, Jan. 5, which is another sign that he won’t be part of a firing spree on the part of the Glazer family. If the owners had decided to have Bowles pack his bands, in theory, they wouldn’t let him talk to the press before it happened.

So, while there will likely be changes for the Bucs during the offseason to ensure a road to the playoffs for the 2026-27 run, it appears, for now, that a head coach change isn’t one of them.
