Newsweek Hosts Panel on the Future of Life Sciences at BIO Convention 2024
We are in the midst of a historical moment in the life sciences sector. After an initial wave of interest during the coronavirus pandemic, the health care and pharmaceutical industries saw a drastic drop in investment.
However, since the start of 2024, the tides have turned yet again as innovations in AI, personalized medicine and gene-based therapies promise to revolutionize the life science industry.
To dive deeper into these developments, Newsweek will be hosting a panel discussion at the upcoming BIO International Convention in San Diego on June 3. This is one of the largest, most-comprehensive events for the biotech industry, attended by over 20,000 industry leaders from across the globe.
Newsweek’s affiliate event sees Senior Science Reporter Pandora Dewan joined by five industry experts to discuss the promises and challenges of these future innovations and, most importantly, how they can be delivered to those who need them.
“Newsweek is deeply committed to facilitating inspirational conversations that foster respectful debate and welcome diverse opinions,” Dev Pragad, Newsweek CEO, said. “Our goal is to drive meaningful change across various sectors, and I am particularly excited about the transformative power of life science—especially within the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
“These fields hold transformative potential for global health and innovation, and we see significant opportunities for Newsweek to contribute to public discourse and education on these advancements,” Pragad added.
The event also marks the launch of Newsweek’s annual report, The New Era of Life Sciences, featuring industry insights from the CEOs of Pfizer, Regeneron, Eli Lilly, and others.
The panel will feature:
- Anna Windle, Senior Vice President of Clinical, Medical and Regulatory Affairs at Novo Nordisk.
- Arda Ural, Leader for Americas Health Sciences & Wellness Industry Markets at Ernst & Young LLP.
- Dr. Jenelle Krishnamoorthy, Vice President and Head of Global Public Policy at Merck.
- Matthew Hewitt, Vice President and Technical Officer CGT and Biologics at Charles River Laboratories.
- Dr. Karim Budhwani, CEO-Scientist at CerFlux.
Amit Shah, Newsweek’s SVP of Finance and General Manager of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, who has managed the event, described it as a “game-changer” for small- and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs. “It’s a platform where they can amplify their voices, connect with experts, and reach a massive audience on Newsweek.”
Shah added: “Let’s empower and inspire each other to reach greater heights in the thrilling realm of science!”
The panel will take place at 1 p.m. EST on Monday, June 3. In-person attendance is fully booked, but you will be available to watch the panel on Newsweek’s YouTube channel after the event.
