NHL Player Deemed ‘Benedict Arnold’ Amid USA-Canada Olympic Hockey Tilt
What comes first—your significant other or your family?
Buffalo Sabres forward Josh Dunne was put to that test on Tuesday when Team USA’s women’s hockey faced off with rival Canada in a round robin Olympics matchup.
Dunne is the brother of Joy Dunne, a forward on the USA team, while his girlfriend, Ella Shelton, is a defender for the Canadian squad. That placed him in quite the awkward position when the two teams met in Milan.

The night before the USA and Canada met on the ice, Corey Miller of KSDK News caught up with Dunne’s parents, Tom and Tammy Dunne, to gain an inside look at the dynamic that has developed within their family. And Tom had an interesting way of phrasing things.
“We’ve got Benedict Arnold in the family,” he said on Monday. “He’s got seats for USA we might not let him in tomorrow. He may have to get his own seats depending on which jersey he decides to wear.”
Joking aside, Tom clarified that he does indeed love his son and his son’s sweetheart.
”We’re big Ella Shelton fans, but it’s about USA tomorrow,” he added.
And indeed it has been through the first two periods, as the USA held a 4-0 lead over Canada at the second intermission. Hannah Bilka has helped propel the USA to a strong performance with a couple of goals entering the final period.
While Dunne was likely playing both sides during Tuesday’s matchup, he may have to console his beloved when the contest reaches its conclusion.
