The contract agreement is a four-year extension. He has two years remaining on his current deal, so this would lock Freeman up in navy and gold for the next six seasons in total.

The Fighting Irish’s 8 p.m. ET kickoff against the Hoosiers will be the first College Football Playoff game that has been played on a college campus.
In 2021, Notre Dame had promoted Freeman from defensive coordinator to head coach following his predecessor Brian Kelly’s departure for LSU.
