NYC Election Day: Voters Cast Final Ballots for Mamdani, Cuomo and Sliwa—Live Updates
New Yorkers will begin to cast their final ballots early Tuesday morning as polling opens on election day in the race to become the next mayor of America’s largest city.
With elections taking place across the country, it is the first major test at the ballot box for U.S. President Donald Trump since he won his second term last November.
New Yorkers will choose between Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, a hard-left democratic socialist who enters as the favorite to win; former state governor Andrew Cuomo, a veteran Democrat running as an independent moderate after losing the party primary to Mamdani; and unorthodox Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, the race outsider.
- Zohran Mamdani is leading all polls, many by double-digits, on election day
- But final AtlasIntel poll shows a tighter NYC race, with Andrew Cuomo closing the gap
- The Real Clear Polling average of polls puts Mamdani’s advantage at +14.3 points over nearest rival Cuomo
- Historic early voting—more than 735,000 voters cast pre-election day ballots—saw a big surge among young people
- President Donald Trump threatened NYC funding if “communist” Mamdani wins
- Current New York City Mayor Eric Adams, an independent former Democrat, endorsed Cuomo
- House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a New York Democrat, endorsed Mamdani
- Rudy Giuliani, NYC mayor during 9/11, endorsed Curtis Sliwa

When Do Polls Open on NYC Election Day?
In New York City Board of Elections jurisdictions, polling places are open from 6am to 9pm today.
If you’re in line at your polling place by 9pm, you are still entitled to cast your ballot.
The results will be announced soon after the polls close, unless the race is very tight.
In the last mayoral election in 2021, Eric Adams was declared the winner just 10 minutes after polls shut.
