NYT ‘Connections’ October 23: Clues and Answers for Game #500
A new day means a new Connections puzzle, and Wednesday’s game has a particular theme for its 500 milestone.
The brainteaser was released by The New York Times in June 2023 and has gone on to become the publication’s second most popular game. Wordle, another word puzzle which was created by engineer Josh Wardle, currently holds that top spot.
In June, Connections developer and New York Times crossword editor Wyna Liu, told Newsweek that it “takes a long time” to come up with the daily puzzle, noting she tries “different angles” before landing on the final product.
“Each board has to be made from scratch,” she said.
In need of some help with today’s game? Keep scrolling for Newsweek‘s clues. Warning: The answers to Connections #500 will be revealed at the end of this article.
How to Play ‘Connections’
Connections is easy to get the hang of, so don’t sweat it if this is your first go. To get started, players are given a table of 16 words and must break these words up into four groups of four based on common characteristics.
Each group of four words will fit into a particular category ranging from yellow to green to blue to purple—with yellow being the easiest and purple being the most difficult.
For example, in Tuesday’s game, the words “Bingo,” “Marco Polo,” “Tag” and “Uno” were associated with the category, “Games where you say the game’s name.” This was a purple category.
While there is no time limit to the game, users only get four guesses before the answers are revealed.
If you’re in need of some help, try clicking the “Shuffle” button. Doing so may just give your brain the reset it needs to win the game.
