Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes are always looking for ways to bring more talent to Columbus and the transfer portal has become one of those ways.
Last year, Ohio State added tight end Max Klare, running back CJ Donaldson, and other players via the portal. A couple of years ago, the Buckeyes landed both Caleb Downs and Julian Sayin via the same route.
While the team is fully focused on the College Football Playoff, Day is likely looking at the transfer portal closely as well.

As the team continues to prepare and wait for the winner of Texas A&M and Miami, there is a freshman phenom who has been aggressively connected to Ohio State as a landing spot in the transfer portal.
Zach Seyko of Locked On Nittany Lions has made it very clear that he expects freshman phenom defensive end Chaz Coleman to end up with the Buckeyes after deciding to enter the transfer portal.
“Penn State freshman phenom Chaz Coleman will be entering the transfer portal,” Seyko wrote. “Don’t waste your time everyone else. He’s going to Ohio State.”
Coleman was ranked as the No. No. 31 overall edge rusher in the 2025 recruiting class and was ranked as the No. 293 overall player in the nation as well, according to 247 Sports.
Now that he is in the transfer portal, 247 Sports has given him the No. 1 overall ranking in the portal as well.
During his freshman season with the Nittany Lions, Coleman only played in five games. He ended the year with eight total tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and a defended pass.

Standing in at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Coleman has the potential to be a high-impact player for whoever lands him in the portal. For Day and Ohio State, he represents an opportunity to find the next great pass rusher for the program.
It’s an unfortunate loss for Penn State. Seeing him end up with the Buckeyes would make losing Coleman even more painful.
At this point in time, it’s not a done deal that Coleman will land with Ohio State. However, that seems to be a very popular opinion since his decision to enter the portal was made official.
