‘Only Murders In The Building’ Casts Fan-Favorite Academy Award Winner
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
A guy known for delivering killer monologues is joining the long list of suspects at the Arconia. Christoph Waltz, known for his incredible and Oscar-winning appearances in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” and “Django Unchained”, has joined the cast of “Only Murders in the Building” Season 5. Tarantino fans will remember Waltz as Col. Hans Landa in “Inglourious Basterds,” and as the bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz in “Django Unchained.”

As is customary for “Only Murders in the Building” considering the whodunnit nature of the series, Waltz’s role is being kept under wraps for the time being.

Hulu
This news from Variety makes Waltz one of a very short list of stars so far added to the next season of Hulu’s murder mystery comedy. A couple of weeks ago Keegan-Michael Key (“Schmigadoon!”) was announced as part of the “Only Murders in the Building” cast.
The only other new cast member reported is Téa Leoni (“Deep Impact”) who shows up in the final moments of Season 4. Leoni plays Sofia Caccimelio, the wife of a missing mobster who asks the show’s heroic trio to look into the disappearance of her husband.
“Only Murders in the Building” was a pandemic era streaming hit whose acclaim and popularity has kept pace ever since. The show’s three heroes are washed up actor Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), has-been stage director Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and the young artist Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez).
In the beginning of the series their only connections are that they all live in the Arconia, an apartment building in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and they’re all true crime podcast fans. When there’s a suspicious death in the building, the trio decides to investigate while simultaneously making what becomes a hit podcast, “Only Murders in the Building,” i.e. they only investigate murders in the Arconia.
In spite of what sounds like a pretty narrow set of criteria, most seasons of “Only Murders in the Building” end with a brand new death setting up the following season. In the case of Season 5, Season 4 ends with the trio discovering the corpse of longtime doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca) in a fountain.
There isn’t an official release date yet for “Only Murders in the Building” Season 5. But judging by past seasons, you can expect the Season 5 premiere to stream on Hulu sometime between June and August of 2025.
