Owner Doesn’t Realize Dog Is Missing, So Other Golden Retriever Steps In

Nothing is quite as bad as feeling left out. Thankfully golden retriever Diesel’s sister quickly came to the rescue after he was accidentally locked in the garden by his owner, who told Newsweek they are an “amazing duo.”

In a post shared on TikTok on Friday by the owner, under the username dieselanddollie, doleful Diesel stands outside the front door, plaintively looking inside the glass, trying to get her attention. Butrealizing what’s wrong, his sister Dollie comes up with a plan.

A caption says: “POV: mom forgot you outside and your sister had to ring the potty bells since mom didn’t realize you were missing.” Followed by: “It’s his sad little paw slip for me, running to the treat drawer right now!”

The poster told Newsweek that Diesel and Dollie are siblings from the same litter who will be a year old on April 2nd.

“They are the best of friends, but very different in their personalities. Dollie is a headstrong leader who is always the first to come up with something to get in trouble…especially when it comes to anything involving dirt! She loves running fast, jumping, and playing keep away from her brother.

“Diesel is our happy floppy boy who is content just eating sticks and is never in a hurry to do anything. He is also a big baby who is obsessed with food and will grump and groan when you don’t pay close attention to him. They still wrestle and play just like they did as babies, even though they both weigh over 70 lbs!

“Even though they are big, they let their small Shih Tzu brother boss them around! They both love being anywhere with new people, especially Diesel who absolutely loves everyone!”

When they got them, the poster and her family had initially gone in for one puppy, but once they saw them together they couldn’t bare the thought of separating them and just ended up with two English cream golden retrievers.

“We can’t imagine them not being together! They are an amazing duo!”

Dollie is trained to use the potty bells on their door to let them know when she has to go outside, and Diesel doesn’t use them as much, Dollie always rings it for the both of them.

“Many times Dollie will ring the bells just to get us to open the door so both pups can go play outside, so we are used to her ringing them for no good reason. This particular night, we had taken all the dogs out for potty time, and we had only been back in for about five minutes or so, when we heard her ring the bells again.

“From my living room sofa, I can only see her sitting at the first door, and I told her that she didn’t need to go back out because we just came in. She rang the bells again and again I told her we weren’t going back out yet because she had just gone out.

“That’s when she barked at me, so I figured she must really have to go. I got up to let her out and as I rounded the corner that’s when I could see Diesel standing in the window so I quickly grabbed my phone to video.”

Dogs have an average intelligence similar to that of a human toddler, according to Fetch by WebMD. They are capable of problem-solving, and can understand between 100 and 200 words. Some can even learn to count and do simple arithmetic.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 3.4 million views and 549,700 likes on the platform.

One user, Christie, commented: “I lost my cocker when he was only a few months old, I went inside to get something, came back out and he was nowhere – garden is secure – but he had followed me back in and got stuck behind the baby gate.”

Stang6699 said: “About 15 years ago I accidentally left one dog outside for a couple hours. I still feel bad about it to this day.” And Plum added: “That other dog inside has such a look of disappointment lol.”
