A miniature dachshund has left viewers on TikTok in stitches after doing the one thing most dogs of its breed are known to avoid: willingly jumping into a full bathtub.
A short video showing the dog impatiently jumping in to join its owner has been viewed more than 2 million times, surprising viewers who are more familiar with dachshunds’ typical disdain for bath time.
Shared on February 12 by the dog’s owner under @ms_louella.marrie, the clip captures the moment from the owner’s point of view inside the tub. Though the tub was full of water, the small dachshund took several hopeful leaps to get in, eventually successfully jumping in and settling beside its owner.
An overlaid text on the video reads: “’My dachshund hates the bath’ well that must be nice because I can’t keep mine out.” The post was captioned: “Like I haven’t taken a single bath alone. They do not lie they are Velcro dogs.”
The video has since amassed more than 393,000 likes and prompted a wave of heartfelt and amused reactions from TikTok users, many of whom said the moment felt instantly familiar. Viewers flooded the comments with jokes about never being alone again, while others shared similar experiences with dogs that refuse to leave their owners’ sides.
The clip stands out precisely because it defies expectations.
Dachshunds are widely regarded as bath-averse dogs. Their long bodies and short legs can make slippery tubs uncomfortable, and many owners describe bath time as a struggle involving resistance, anxiety, or outright refusal to get near the water. Against that backdrop, the sight of a dachshund voluntarily leaping into a bathtub reads as both surprising and endearing.
In this case, the dog’s motivation appears to have less to do with a love of water and more to do with attachment. Often described as “velcro dogs,” dachshunds are known for forming strong bonds with their owners and seeking constant closeness. The caption leans into that reputation, suggesting the dog’s presence in the bath is simply an extension of that loyalty.
Rather than splashing or panicking, the dachshund in the video appears calm and determined, treating the tub as just another place to be near its favorite person.
