PGA Tour Fans Blast Justin Thomas for Valspar Gag Job as Viktor Hovland Wins
The long string of signature events leading up to The Masters has ended, but that doesn’t mean there’s no drama on the PGA Tour.
On Sunday at the Valspar Championship, two of the game’s struggling stars went head-to-head down the stretch, with Viktor Hovland coming out on top by one stroke over Justin Thomas to take home his seventh PGA Tour title.
For much of Sunday, it looked like Hovland’s bounce-back week was going to be a case of close, but no cigar. Thomas drained a birdie putt on No. 15 to get to 12-under for the tournament and take a three-shot lead with just three holes to play before things fell apart.
Hovland answered the bell, making birdie on Nos. 14, 16 and 17, while Thomas collapsed in front of him. Errant tee shots on Nos. 16 and 18 led to a pair of bogeys for the American, turning that three-shot lead into a two-shot deficit.

After Hovland calmly made a bogey on the last to secure the win, PGA Tour fans wasted no time grilling Thomas for fumbling a golden opportunity.
“Man I love Viktor Hovland but man it hurt me to watch Justin Thomas choke that” one fan commented on X, formerly Twitter.
“So that’s the choke job of the year by Justin Thomas right? #ValsparChampionship,” another fan wrote.
“Devastating day for Justin Thomas fans😔😔 I am sad,” a third fan stated.
This loss will be especially painful for Thomas considering the winless drought that he was just a few good tee shots away from snapping.
The Louisville native hasn’t won a tournament since the 2022 PGA Championship. Now, he will arrive to Augusta National still stuck in that dry spell with a little extra scar tissue added on top.
