PGA Tour Reveals The PLAYERS Field with Legendary Pairing Trio
The 51st Players Championship is this upcoming week and the field is basically set.
It is one of the PGA Tour’s best fields, as 48 of the Official World Golf Rankings’ top 50 players are playing in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida at TPC Sawgrass.
During the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the tournament unveiled one of its featured groups to get fans even more excited for the unofficial fifth major.
These three heavy-hitters are headlining the pairings: World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, No. 2 Rory McIlroy and No. 3 Xander Schauffele.
Fans want to see these pairings, especially in these elevated events. The tournament officials’ decision to pair these three of the most popular golfers on the PGA Tour is a brilliant move.
These three players are the face of the PGA Tour, so putting them together for one of the staple events makes sense.

The tournament features 144 players, including eight former champions: Scheffler, Justin Thomas, McIlroy, Si Woo Kim, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, and Adam Scott.
Scheffler is looking to win his third straight Players Championship. He is looking to become the first player to win this event three times since Jack Nicklaus, who did it in 1974, 1976 and 1978.
It would also be the first time a player won an event three consecutive years since Steve Stricker won the John Deere Classic from 2009-11, per the press release from The Players.
Scheffler will face plenty of guys coming for blood at TPC Sawgrass. Several guys are coming into the tournament with momentum, so he will have to bring it if he wants to make history. However, if the past tells us anything, these big tournaments are when fans see Scheffler at his best.
Officials will likely announce the remaining pairings and tee times Tuesday afternoon.
