PGA Veteran Causes Uproar With Fans For Unusual Reason
During the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, experienced golfer Jason Day stirred up quite the reaction due to his outfit choice during the final round.
At the acclaimed Pebble Beach Golf Links in Northern California, Day opted to wear a grey sweatsuit. Traditionally, golf has been a sport with rigid fashion standards.
Players are expected to maintain a neat appearance that aligns with the established golf fashion of the time. Jason Day’s sweatsuit, featuring a notable cursive “M” for his apparel sponsor Malbon Golf, however, diverged from these conventions.
The PGA handbook states:
“Players shall present a neat appearance in both clothing and personal grooming.
“Clothing worn by players shall be consistent with currently accepted golf fashion.”
During the event itself, Day’s performance was respectable. He shot a 69 in the final round, which placed him tied for 13th with a total score of 12-under 269.
Fans have taken to Instagram to react to Day’s outfit. One fan commented:
“I’m a big JD fan but that is awful.”
Other fans have also shared:
“Legit question, how is this allowed at pebble? No dress code?”
“Most of us don’t think it is funny. Your casual attire is even sloppier than your play. Please clean it up!”
“The novelty of this charade is starting to become lost on me. Fashions great but let’s not encourage the disrespect of the ultimate gentleman’s game. Golf should be a game of attraction, not promotion. End rant.”
“Please don’t wear that whilst playing golf, travelling to comps, yes, very comfy.”
On the other hand, other users praised the golfer, stating:
“Best dressed man on tour. Embrace the hate.”
“Looking great. Trailblazer.”
“All about the casual fit. Send the old style packing.”
