Potential Asking Price for Nationals Left-Hander Revealed

Mackenzie Gore was not a name that many expected to be available at the trade deadline.

ESPNs MLB insider recently listed Gore as a potential fit for the Chicago Cubs and that prediction came a bit out of nowhere.

Gore is just 26 years old and under team control through the end of the 2027 season.

He is also in the middle of a season that has been better than the numbers suggest. Gore is 4-10 with a 3.52 ERA and 144 strikeouts across 21 starts and 117 2/3 innings.

A trade for a young, controllable left-handed pitcher could potentially cost a king’s ransom and according to recent reports, that may be exactly what a certain team will have to give up.

We previously mentioned Passan listing the Cubs as a great fit, and according to Patrick Mooney and Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic, Chicago is pursuing Gore much harder and more seriously than any other team in the league.

With that report in mind, a potential asking price for a Cubs-Nats trade surrounding Gore has been revealed via an X post from MoccBomb.

If that is indeed Washington’s asking price to send Gore away, Chicago’s front office will have quite a decision to make.

Trading away four of its 12 top prospects feel steep, even for a talent like Gore. That package is extremely similar to the same one the San Diego Padres traded to the Nationals in order to acquire Juan Soto.

Giving up both Owen Caissie and Moises Ballesteros may not be something the Cubs would want to do, especially considering they have just one outfielder under contract through 2027.

The Nationals certainly don’t have to trade Gore, so it feels safe to assume that they will not back down from a steep asking price.

If Chicago feels comfortable pulling the trigger on that kind of package, it would be one of the bigger trades in recent memory and would certainly cement the Cubs as a definite World Series contender.
