Prince William’s ‘Adorable’ Attempt at Baking Goes Viral
Prince William messing up an attempt at baking while Princess Kate was “quietly doing it perfectly” won hearts on social media.
The Prince and Princess of Wales tried their hands at making potato and apple cakes during a visit to Long Meadow Cider, in Craigavon, on a one-day trip to Northern Ireland on Tuesday.
And while Kate seemed to effortlessly roll her dough into the right shape, William joked that his was not coming out as he had hoped.
Why It Matters
A clip of the moment was liked 3,400 times and viewed 95,400 times after being posted with the message: “Prince William showing off his cooking/baking skills will never not be funny. His comments are hilarious.”
What to Know
The couple had help from a staff member who told William to roll the dough into a “circle” shape. “A circle?” William replied. To a chorus of laughs, he added: “If you look at it this way it looks like a circle.”
The baker replied, “a rectangle sir?” and William added: “A rectangle, certainly. This is a new variety.” As those present laughed, he then pointed at Kate’s and said: “How has that gone so circular and this looks like a rectangle?”
At the family-run orchard, William and Kate donned aprons and joined a hands-on cookery session, baking a traditional potato-and-apple cake before touring the presses and stores. The couple also chatted with the owners Pat and Catherine McKeever.
The stop came after the pair spent time with firefighters and trainees at Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service’s new £50 million (nearly $66.8 million) Learning and Development Centre near Cookstown, where they observed specialist rescue drills.
And Kate joked that she wanted to go at full speed with the sirens on but “was strictly told no,” according to newly qualified firefighter Caoimhe McNeice, who was present and quoted by U.K. broadsheet The Times.
“The princess was saying, ‘I’d love to drive at the real speed and have the sirens on’,” McNeice said, “but they were getting to the water rescue. It was just a bit of banter. She was wanting the prince to drive, but no. The driver got us there safely anyway.”
What People Are Saying
One reply on X said William was “Adorable!!” while another account said, “I just love these two! So authentic!” “He is so funny,” said a third, “and Omgoosh they are so happy you can just tell.”
Another reply read, “And look at her [Kate] just quietly doing it perfectly!” while another said: “You can tell she cooks coz she is doing a perfect circle… she should make a cooking show for Christmas :).”
Long Meadow Cider posted on Instagram: “What an honour! Today we had the privilege of welcoming the @princeandprincessofwales to @long.meadow.cider.
“It was a true pleasure to showcase our family-run business and to welcome them to our family farm. Their warmth and genuine interest made it a truly special day for everyone here at Long Meadow—a day we’ll remember for years to come.”
