Race To Save American Airlines DC Plane Crash Survivors In Potomac River
A search-and-rescue operation is underway in the Potomac River after an American Airlines plane carrying 60 people collided with an Army helicopter while landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.
There were multiple fatalities, but the precise number of victims is unclear as rescue crews search for survivors, The Associated Press reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.
There were 60 passengers on the plane, according to American Airlines. Three soldiers were onboard the helicopter, the AP reported.
Officials who held a press conference at Reagan National Airport did not announce any deaths. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser did not say whether any bodies were recovered from the crash.
