Red Sox Projected To Poach $182 Million Slugger From Mets In Free Agency
Pete Alonso is one of the best sluggers in free agency this winter. He’s projected to land a massive $182 million deal, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic, but there’s a chance he doesn’t get the long-term deal he’s looking for.
With Alonso on the open market, there are a lot of teams that could look to bring him in. He’s one of the top power hitters in baseball and is coming off a season in which he slashed .272/.347/.524 with 38 home runs.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter recently projected Alonso would land with the Boston Red Sox in free agency this winter.

“If Pete Alonso does not once again find his way back to the Mets, the Red Sox appear to be his most likely landing spot, which would in turn make Triston Casas one of the more intriguing buy-low candidates on the trade market,” Reuter wrote.
The Red Sox need a slugger at first base after the position was a nightmare this season. Alonso is the best first base bat on the market and the Red Sox have the money to make a deal come to fruition.
In a perfect world, the Red Sox would be able to land Alonso and another top free agent like Dylan Cease or Alex Bregman. But they’d be in a good spot going forward if they can land Alonso by himself.
