“With Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer both moving on to the majors, Arias is now the top prospect in the Red Sox farm system,” Reuter wrote. “One of the best defensive shortstops in the minors with a 60-grade hit tool to boot, he has the potential to be an impact player even with middling power.”
With the other top infield prospects, like Campbell and Mayer, graduating from prospect status, it’s Arias who headlines the Red Sox’s system.
The teenage prospect is a slick fielder with a very solid hit tool. As he continues to grow and develop, his power should tick up quite a bit, too. As long as he can continue to hit around .300, he’s going to be a problem for opposing pitchers.
The Red Sox won’t need to rush him up the minor league system because of their talent at the big league level, which should be good for Arias in the long run.
