Report: Packers Have Checked in on Trade for Dynamic Playmaker
Throughout the first seven weeks of the 2025 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers have compiled a 4-1-1 record and are the best team in the NFC. While there have been some frustrations over the last few weeks, the team have looked the part of a potential Super Bowl contender.
Matt LaFleur and company are loaded with talent on both sides of the football. However, there are always ways to improve.
With the NFL trade deadline coming up, the Packers might be a team to keep an eye on. There are some who believe that they could be a buyer for talent. At this point, there are a couple of positions that stand out as a need.

One of those positions comes in the cornerback room. After moving on from Jaire Alexander, the team has seen Keisean Nixon play at a high level, but Nate Hobbs has struggled some. Green Bay could also consider making a move on the offensive line to bring in more talent and depth.
While those two areas are obvious potential areas to buy, the Packers have been connected to a very surprising desire ahead of the deadline.
According to a report from Easton Butler of Packer Report, Green Bay has placed trade calls to four teams regarding running backs. He reported that the Packers have reached out to the Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, and Baltimore Ravens, with De’Von Achane being one of the names in particular.
“The Packers have been making calls leading up to the deadline, including at the Running Back position, per source,” Butler wrote on X. “The Packers have called 4 teams about RBs, those being: Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints and the Baltimore Ravens. De’Von Achane was one of the players, but was just a call to see price. Nothing more for him. (Other teams, don’t know the players).”
Of course, Green Bay already has Josh Jacobs as its clear-cut workhorse running back. Adding Achane would bring in more playmaking, but it’s a bit of a surprise that the Packers are focusing on the running back position.

Achane has played in seven games so far this season with the Dolphins. He has carried the football 89 times for 472 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. In addition, he has caught 32 passes for 211 yards and three more scores.
Will Green Bay actually trade for a bigger name at running back like Achane? It would be a bit of a surprise, but bringing in better help behind Jacobs to keep him healthy and fresh would be a wise decision.
