Heading into the 2025 NBA offseason, both the Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat are looking to make moves. With the Eastern Conference wide open following the trio of injuries to Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum, and Tyrese Haliburton, teams within the conference see an opportunity to be aggressive.

According to a report from longtime NBA insider Marc Stein, the Pistons could look into acquiring Duncan Robinson via a sign-and-trade with the Heat.
“The Pistons, meanwhile, are likewise said to be weighing a run at Miami’s Duncan Robinson to potentially fill their sudden need for shooting in addition to the interest in LeVert,” Stein wrote. “Robinson opted Sunday to bypass his $19.9 million player option for next season, but the move was made, sources said, with the expectation that the Heat and Robinson would work together on a new deal or pursue his exit via sign-and-trade.”
Detroit suffered a disappointing update on free agent wing Malik Beasley on Sunday as well. It was reported that he is facing major off the court issues.
Robinson would be an interesting pickup for the Pistons. He’s known for being an elite three-point shooter, which is something Detroit could definitely use more of in order to compete at the highest level in the conference.
During the 2024-25 NBA season with Miami, Robinson played in 74 games and made 37 starts. He averaged 11 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.3 rebounds, while shooting 43.7 percent from the floor and knocking down 39.3 percent of his three-point attempts.

At 31 years old, Robinson still has a few years left playing at a high level.
There is a chance that Robinson could simply end up re-signing with the Heat. However, if the two sides can’t work something out, the door could open up for the Pistons to pursue him via a sign-and-trade.
While there is no clear direction with this situation, it’s one to keep a close eye on. Robinson would be a very intriguing target for Detroit and would bring the elite three-point shooter the team would be missing if Beasley doesn’t return.
