Report: Suns Closing in on Kevin Durant Trade
Over the past few weeks, the Phoenix Suns have been at the center of the NBA rumor mill. Kevin Durant’s name has been mentioned in most of those rumors, with many teams across the NBA having interest in acquiring him from the Suns.
Most notably, the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs are Durant’s preferred destinations. Other teams have also shown interest, including the Minnesota Timberwolves and Toronto Raptors.
While the Timberwolves and Raptors have very intriguing packages to offer Phoenix, Durant has not seemed willing to play for either of those two teams.

As the rumors continue on, it sounds like the Suns might be getting close to a deal.

According to a report from longtime Phoenix sports reporter John Gambadoro, the Suns are close to trading Durant and a deal could happen on Sunday or Monday.
“A Kevin Durant deal is very close,” Gambadoro wrote. “Phoenix continues to work with multiple teams to get the deal they want and I expect it will happen today or tomorrow.”
Durant is still one of the best scorers in the NBA. Even at 36 years old, he’s the kind of player who can take a good team to being a legitimate championship contender.
All three teams on his preferred trade list would be contenders by acquiring him. They all offer different kinds of intriguing fits for the longtime superstar.
During the 2024-25 NBA season with Phoenix, Durant played in 62 games. He ended up averaging 26.6 points per game to go along with six rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks, while shooting 52.7 percent from the floor and knocking down 43 percent of his three-point attempts.

One team recently was reportedly at an “impasse” with the Suns in trade discussions and hadn’t talked in days. That team was the Rockets, who are one of Durant’s preferred suitors.
“I was told yesterday (Thursday) that Houston hadn’t talked to Phoenix since last week, and that call didn’t go particularly well,” NBA insider Sam Amick said. “That could have changed by now, again that’s as of yesterday. They would love to have KD, but it’s on their price.”
It will be interesting to see who the winner of the Durant sweepstakes ends up being. Gambadoro believes a deal is coming soon.
