For years and years, everybody was waiting on Rory McIlroy to finally win another major.
The weight of not winning a major since 2014 was weighing on McIlroy, but that weight grew exponentially every time he showed up to Augusta National for The Masters.
On Sunday, McIlroy killed two birds with one stone. McIlroy got back in the winner’s circle at a major while winning the career grand slam all in one with a dramatic playoff victory over Justin Rose.
After McIlroy drained his final birdie putt to officially clinch the win, emotions were high for everyone both at Augusta and around the world. His hometown club, Hollywood GC, erupted when the final putt dropped.
McIlroy has been through so much at Augusta and at all the majors since his last win, and you could see the eight being lifted off of his shoulders as he soaked in the moment of victory.
Everyone is understandably thrilled for McIlroy, and everyone has been leaving their congratulations for him throughout the evening.

Not only did McIlroy win the Green Jacket, but he did it on one of the most dramatic final Sundays that you will ever see at a major. He started the day with a double bogey, and Bryson DeChambeau took the lead over him by one stroke on the third tee box.
McIlroy built the lead back up to four shots on the back nine before another double bogey on No. 13. That, followed by another bogey on the 14th, allowed Rose and Ludvig Aberg to tie the lead.
McIlroy missed a chance to win the tournament on the 72nd hole, but he got the job done in the end in the playoff. Now, he and the rest of the golf world can celebrate a historic victory.
