Russell Wilson to Giants Has Huge NFL Draft Implications

The New York Giants have added yet another piece to their quarterback room, signing veteran free agent Russell Wilson to a one-year deal to join fellow recent signees Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito.
The Giants are seemingly set at quarterback, meaning any other free agents seem very unlikely to sign with the team. However, the Wilson signing does have huge implications for the draft, mainly with the top three picks.

With the top three teams, the Titans, the Browns, and the Giants, all in need of a new young quarterback, that made each of them candidates to take either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders entering the draft process.
With the Giants having the third pick, unless they traded up, they seemed like the least likely team to get one of those two prospects.
There have been plenty of thoughts regarding what the top two teams will do, with people going back and forth on whether neither, both, or just one of them would take a quarterback.
With new reports emerging and the Giants aggressively addressing their need at quarterback in free agency, the most likely scenario now seems to be Ward and Sanders going with the top two picks.

While the Giants may still take a quarterback if one of those two was still there at three, the signings of Wilson and Winston seem to suggest they don’t expect one of those two to be there.
Considering the front office and coaching staff are on borrowed time anyway, addressing the quarterback situation from a short-term lens makes a lot of sense for the Giants to try and buy more time to build the team up.
Avoiding the quarterback position at the top of this year’s draft could also turn out to be a blessing in disguise, as there are seemingly two stand-out prospects at other positions, in Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter.
The Giants seem like they will have the option to choose one of those two players, or worst-case scenario, have a very enticing trade up pick.
If the Giants added Hunter, their offense consisting of Wilson/Winston, Hunter, Malik Nabers, and Tyrone Tracy would be pretty strong on paper. Hunter could also help tremendously on defense on the perimeter.
Carter would also be a top prospect at the next most premium position after the quarterback in edge rusher, making him very enticing as well.
Even though the Giants seem to be missing out on the top quarterback prospects, fans should still be excited to draft an elite prospect that will help the team in other areas.
