Saints’ Chris Olave to See Specilaits to Determine NFL Future After Scary Concussion
New Orleans Saints star wide receiver Chris Olave suffered his second concussion in a matter of weeks in Week 9 when the New Orleans Saints played the Carolina Panthers. After a pass was thrown to him over the middle from Derek Carr, Olave was hit by two Panthers defenders and was immediately believed to be severely injured.

Training staff and medical professionals sent the cart out for him immediately. Thankfully, Olave was revealed to have movement in all his extremities. His brother, Josh, also revealed that Chris was up and moving at the hospital shortly after the frightening injury.
The issue is that Olave suffered his second recorded concussion of this season. He suffered the first during Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The result of the concussion was a missed game in Week 8.
After suffering his second of 2024 and the fourth of his career, Olave is now seeking the opinions of specialists to determine his NFL future.
According to Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi, “He wants to go thoroughly through the process and make sure he’s making the best decision for Chris Olave, removing football from that equation … We’re more concerned about Chris Olave the person and making sure everything is okay.”
Olave’s situation is reminiscent of the situation that involved Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa suffered his third recorded and second scary concussion of his young career in Week 2 when he ran head-first into Buffalo Bills defender Damar Hamlin.
After Tagovailoa was shown making the “fencing posture,” many called for him to retire and think about his health over football. Tagovailoa went through many tests and determined that he would continue playing football. He has since returned.
Olave is likely to go through the same kind of tests while seeking the opinions of professionals who may determine if playing the game of football will be safe for him moving forward.
Granted, Tagovailoa was given a clean bill of health and was able to return to the field. The same could happen for Olave. However, he suffered two concussions in less than a month, which might be cause for concern.
Olave will see the opinion of professionals to determine his NFL future, and the Saints will then make a decision regarding him being placed on IR — or playing the rest of 2024. Time will tell what will happen, but there are plenty who were not happy about the events that occurred.

Josh went after the Saints organization after watching his brother receive such a scary injury. Former Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas also blasted Carr on social media, blaming him for “panicking” and throwing a pass over the middle, which is far more dangerous.
It’s hard not to understand why people are upset. Still, the decision for Olave to return will be up to professionals and the receiver himself.
