Scrapper Sisters Announce New Driver to Team Ahead of the Strip at Las Vegas

The Scrappers Sisters have announced the expansion of their track lineup. Welcoming Top Fuel driver Travis Shumake into their ranks, the team is set to add new energy to the team as they head to the Ford Performance NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Comprised of the likes of Top Fuel rookie Jasmine Salinas and Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Jianna Evaristo, the Scrappers team is full of talent. Since stepping up due to her father Mike Salinas’ medical leave, Jasmine Salinas has navigated her rookie year with strength, but her performance hasn’t always been as high as she wanted it to be.

Jianna Evaristo, on the other hand, is experiencing what could be described as a career peak. Riding the Valley Services Scrappers Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle, her preparation under the guidance of Matt Smith Racing have readied her for a potential breakthrough at Las Vegas, via Drag Illustrated.

“I love competing in Las Vegas. It’s a fantastic facility, and I think we are peaking at the right time. The learning never stops and I love the challenge, but I’m ready to land this Buell in the winner’s circle.”

For Travis Shumake, joining the Scrappers team signals a big chapter in his evolving drag racing career. Travis, whose legacy traces back to his father, Tripp Shumake, a celebrated NHRA Funny Car driver, brings with him a deep history.

After stepping away from drag racing following his father’s tragic death in 1999, Travis reignited his racing ambitions in 2021. As the first openly gay driver in the NHRA, his commitment to inclusivity and diversification within the sport is as celebrated as his professional endeavors.

This event will be Travis’ fourth start of the season in his Gillette Labs Top Fuel dragster. He will not be a rookie contender in the competitive Rookie of the Year melee.

The Ford Performance NHRA Nationals at The Strip promises to be an eventful campaign, spanning October 31 to November 3 in Las Vegas. Fans can anticipate qualifying sessions on November 1 and 2, leading to eliminations starting at 11:00 a.m. on November 3.
