Seahawks Give Telling Running Back Update

The Seattle Seahawks face a big transition at running back this year with the departure of Kenneth Walker III in free agency, and head coach Mike Macdonald opened up on where the team stands.

Seattle’s top back Zach Carbonnett has more recovery ahead after an ACL injury in the playoffs, and Kenny McIntosh tore his ACL last year and missed the whole season. That leaves George Holani and Emmanuel Wilson on the depth chart.

“Well, we have, you know, Kenny Mac and Zach are gonna be rehabbing, like, crazy, trying to get back,” Macdonald told NFL Network’s Steve Wyche on Monday. “We’re gonna be aggressive with that as best we can, but we’re also gonna be as smart as we can to take care of them. So, when they’re ready to go, they’re ready to go.”

Charbonnet rushed for 730 yards and 12 touchdowns on 184 carries last season. McIntosh had 172 yards on 31 carries in 17 games for 2024 before the injury in 2025. Holani ran for 73 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries last year, and he notably had four receptions for 34 yards in the playoffs.

“I think what you saw from George Holani in the offseason, or really at the end of the season, Super Bowl, NFC championship, the guy played great football,” Macdonald said. “So, we’re always looking to make our team take the next step, but the guys we’re having the building were excited for, and I’m pretty sure it’s Zach Charbonnet scored, like, 14 touchdowns last year, so it was pretty good.”

Nonetheless, Seattle running backs will have to fill a massive void left by Walker, who had 1,027 yards and five touchdowns on 221 carries last season. The Seahawks still have time to add more talent and depth in the meantime via free agency, trade, or the draft.
