Seahawks News: Kenneth Walker Receives Big Injury Update For MNF Clash vs Lions

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III has been removed from the team’s injury report and will play Monday against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Walker has missed the last two games with an oblique injury, sidelining him during the Seahawks’ wins over the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins. Walker last played during the Seahawks’ Week 1 win against the Denver Broncos, rushing 20 times for 103 yards and a touchdown.

Walker was a limited participant in practice on Thursday and Friday but returned as a full participant on Saturday.

With Walker out, Zach Charbonnet saw the majority of carries in the Seahawks backfield. He struggled in Week 2 against the Patriots run defense, carrying the ball 14 times for just 38 yards and a touchdown. He saw greater success against the Dolphins the following week, rushing 18 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

The Seahawks are excited to have Walker back and their backfield duo together as they get ready to face the Lions this week.

“He’s looked good. He’s ready to go,” Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said of Walker. “It’s the duo you’ve had all offseason and how you’ve envisioned our offense operating.

Walker has served as the Seahawks’ primary back each of the last two seasons and rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2022. Charbonnet has primarily been a complementary back to Walker since the Seahawks drafted him out of UCLA.

While the Seahawks will get Walker back, they will be without four key defenders. Outside linebackers, Boye Mafe, Uchenna Nwosu, defensive end Leonard Williams, and defensive tackle Byron Murphy will all not play.

Mafe has not been able to practice all week because of a knee injury while Williams has not practiced because of an injury to his ribs. Murphy is working through a hamstring injury, and Nwosu has a knee injury.

The losses to these four players will be critical as the Seahawks go up against a Lions team that is one of the best in the NFL. The Seahawks have started the season 3-0, but they have yet to face a team as good as the Lions.

The Lions will also be without one of their key players in the game, as Lions center Frank Ragnow will not play because of a pectoral injury. Lions tight end Sam LaPorta is expected to play on Monday.
