SNAP Benefits to Resume as Government Opens Back Up—Live Updates
President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a Senate and House-approved GOP funding bill that ended the nation’s longest government shutdown, meaning the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is finally set to resume payments. Millions of Americans have received no federal food assistance in November due to the 43-day shutdown, while others received partial funds or full payments between the court battles.
When To Expect SNAP Payments
- Recipients can expect the restoration of payments in the next few days, but the timing and process may vary by state.
- States that had not issued any benefits during the shutdown—such as South Carolina and West Virginia—are expected to release payments within 24 hours to three days of the funding release, according to the USDA.
- States that issued only partial benefits may need additional time to correct and complete payments.
- At least 19 states and the District of Columbia managed to provide full benefits to some SNAP participants last week.
