Stephen A Smith Slams Giants Over Major Issue
There was a real trickle of optimism surrounding the New York Giants after they defeated the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, 34-17, on Thursday, Oct. 9. Despite having a 2-4 record, it looked like they had found a capable starting quarterback in rookie Jaxson Dart, running back Cam Scattebo was looking like a stud and their front four was being very productive.
It looked like New York was on its way to another win when it led the Denver Broncos 19-0 early in the fourth quarter on Sunday. But it completely collapsed and lost, 33-32, on a last-second field goal by Will Lutz.
While it was a miraculous comeback for the Broncos, who are in first place in the AFC West with a 5-2 record, it was an embarrassing moment for the Giants. ESPN personality and New York City native Stephen A. Smith didn’t hide his disgust, as he took to social media to slam the Giants.

Giants fans have had a lot to complain about in recent years. The franchise has struggled to find a suitable quarterback ever since Eli Manning called it quits, and it has finished with a winning record just twice in the previous 12 seasons. Those Vince Lombardi Trophies it won during the 2007 and 2011 seasons now seem like distant memories.
It is pretty much assured that the Giants will not make the playoffs this season. Therefore, they and their fans will have to find pockets of incremental improvement to grasp to in order to find some tangible optimism for the short-term and medium-term future.
In his fourth pro start, Dart completed just 15 of 33 pass attempts. But he threw for 283 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, and those are certainly very respectable, if not excellent, numbers.
Skattebo had a solid 60 rushing yards on 16 attempts, as well as three receptions, 34 receiving yards and one touchdown reception. Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson has stepped up with Malik Nabers out for the year, and on Sunday, he caught six passes for 95 yards.
On the other side of the football, edge rusher Brian Burns continued his excellent play with two sacks and three tackles for loss. That performance had him tied for the league lead in sacks with nine, and he also ended Sunday with an NFL-high 12 tackles for loss.

The rest of this season could still be rough for the Giants and their fans. But the pieces could be there for them to start being competitive as soon as next season.
