Steve Bannon Will Have His ‘Retribution’ Moment, Colleague Warns
Conservative strategist Steve Bannon will soon find “retribution” against his political opponents, according to the co-host of Bannon’s War Room podcast.
Bannon, ex-adviser of former President Donald Trump, is set to be released from federal prison on Tuesday. He was sentenced to four months behind bars after being found guilty of contempt of Congress by refusing to testify before the House January 6 committee.
War Room co-host Natalie Winters expressed outrage during a podcast episode on Monday over tax dollars being used to “jail and imprison arguably one of the most important patriots to have ever existed in the history of this country,” referring to Bannon.
“[Bannon is] the MAGA equivalent of George Washington,” Winters said. “And in the same way that Paul Revere had his midnight ride … ‘The British are coming! …’ Stephen K. Bannon will have his midnight ride back to the War Room tonight.”
Winters then suggested that Bannon would call for revenge against his political opponents on the day of his release, just one week before Trump takes on Vice President Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election.
“He won’t be saying, ‘the British are coming,'” Winters said. “He’ll be saying, ‘retribution is coming.’ And rightfully so. And it’s long overdue.”
Newsweek reached out for comment to War Room via email on Monday night.
Bannon has reportedly been spending his time in prison teaching fellow inmates civics during weekly classes, at one point telling his class that everything they needed to know “can be learned from Godfather I and Godfather II,” according to Rolling Stone.
In comments shared to his War Room website last week, Bannon argued that an “October surprise” was headed toward Harris because Black and Hispanic voters in swing states will turn against her due to the Bureau of Prisons (BOP), which she does not control, failing to fully implement the bipartisan First Step Act, which Trump signed into law in 2018.
Bannon also suggested that Black and Hispanic voters would not vote for Harris because she has not said that she plans to issue mass deportations for “illegal alien criminals” if elected next month.
“October Surprise—Black and Hispanic men detest the ‘Queen of Mass Incarcerations,’ Kamala Harris, and will not vote for her because she refuses to mass deport illegal alien criminals while having her BOP deliberately fail to enforce President Trump’s First Step Act, thus further destroying Black and Hispanic families,” Bannon said.
The First Step Act gives nonviolent federal drug offenders an opportunity to reduce their sentences by participating in vocational and rehabilitative programs. It also allows some other federal prisoners to reduce their sentences by achieving “good time credits.”
Bannon entered federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut, on July 1. While allies argued for his early release based on good time credits, all attempts to shorten his sentence were unsuccessful.
Expelled GOP Congressman George Santos, scheduled to be sentenced to a likely federal prison term next year following wire fraud and identity theft convictions, predicted that Bannon would be “skinny and fit” when he emerges from prison in a post to X, formerly Twitter.
“Are we all ready to welcome back a skinny and fit Steve Bannon?” Santos wrote. “Steve we need you back ASAP! [American flag emoji] [Flexed biceps emoji]”
