Steve Bannon Will Plead Guilty in Fraud Case to Avoid Prison Time
Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon will plead guilty in a fraud case alleging that he tricked donors who gave money toward building a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Bannon agreed to plead guilty in the case in exchange for avoiding prison time.
His lawyer made the revelation to Law360, which first reported the news.
What To Know
The former chief strategist, a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, was indicted in New York in 2022 and accused of conspiring to launder money and commit fraud via a sham “We Build The Wall” charity.
Bannon was slated to go to trial on the fraud charges on February 25, but a judge pushed it to March 4 after the former chief strategist hired new lawyers to pursue a more combative defense strategy.

What People Are Saying
Bannon said at a hearing last month: “I’ve been smeared by a political prosecution — persecution — for years, and I need someone who’s a little more aggressive. I need every tool in the tool box.”
