The Golden State Warriors are among several championship-hopefuls to get linked to some of the biggest trade candidates in the NBA.
While the front office ultimately makes the roster decision, Steve Kerr has earned enough respect within the Warriors’ organization to have a say. Depending on how much weight his opinion currently holds, the Warriors could avoid taking a large risk in the trade market by going for a superstar pickup.
Kerr recently pushed back on the idea of Golden State pushing too many chips in.
“If there’s something that makes us better—for sure—but all you have to do is look at some of these teams out there that have given up the world for a star player and now they are looking around like the Clippers, no picks. Phoenix, no picks. Milwaukee, no picks,” Kerr said on The Tom Tolbert Show.
“You can really paint yourselves in a corner if you’re risky and irresponsible. I feel great about having Mike in charge of all of this because he’s sharp and understands all of this.”
The Warriors Are Expected to Make a Trade
Jonathan Kuminga’s days with the Warriors are numbered. The entire league knows it.
While Kuminga has a market, he hasn’t reached a level where he could be the driving force in a blockbuster deal. If the Warriors want a big name, they’ll have to go bigger, risking assets for the future.
Over the summer, Giannis Antetokounmpo had some soft links to the Warriors, but that is too far-fetched at this time.
The most recent target linked to Golden State is the Brooklyn Nets sharpshooter, Michael Porter Jr. He joins a short list of rumored targets that includes Myles Turner and Anthony Davis.
Golden State’s Reality
The end is near.
While it’s hard to assume that the Steph Curry-Jimmy Butler-Draymond Green trio can’t will the Warriors to a deep playoff run, it’s becoming evident that the dynasty is nearing the finish line.
The Warriors have to start thinking about the future now more than ever. Parting ways with draft assets will only set them back late in the stages of the dynasty. Making a trade is necessary for the Warriors. Going all in for the 2025-2026 season would be a dangerous play.
