“Stone Cold” Steve Austin Names CM Punk Who Would Be On His Dream Match List
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin, a wrestling icon, has faced many legendary opponents, but a match with CM Punk has eluded him. Austin’s return at WrestleMania 38 against Kevin Owens, his first match since 2003, reignited speculation about potential future bouts.

While WWE wanted him for WrestleMania 39, filming commitments prevented his participation. Following Punk’s 2023 WWE return, reports surfaced that some within the company were advocating for an Austin vs. Punk match.
This concept was teased a decade earlier during the promotion for the WWE ’13 video game. Discussions between WWE and Punk about this possibility were reportedly held.

Despite numerous ideas being considered, the crucial step of bringing Austin and Punk together to collaborate on a match never materialized.Over a year later, the much-anticipated clash remains unrealized.
Austin did a recent interview with Adrian Hernandez of Unlikely. During it, he was asked about his relationship with Punk.

“Oh, me and Punk are friends from way back. There was a picture back from, you know, probably in my heyday. And, you know, he’s lot younger than I am, and we got a picture there together, and [he] was just young kid.
And so I think, you know, he was a stone cold fan back in day, and I’m a cm buc fan. I’m a fan of his work and his promos. Jesus Christ seemed to light somebody up. So, you know, we don’t talk a whole lot. We’ll send each other a text every now and then, but when we’re probably really, really good friends and don’t talk a whole lot, and have a lot of mutual respect for each other. I enjoy what he does.”
Austin was also asked whether Punk would be his dream match. He said, “Oh, man, there’s so many potential great matches. I’d have to draw a blank stare and think for five minutes. But yeah, would he be on the list? Of course.”
