Taylor Swift’s Gesture to Travis Kelce After Christmas Touchdown Goes Viral
Taylor Swift has shown her support for Travis Kelce after she liked three Instagram posts about the tight end scoring a touchdown on Christmas Day, breaking a major Kansas City Chiefs record.
The Chiefs played the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 25, the first of two games that Netflix livestreamed on Christmas Day. The game included Kelce’s 77th career receiving touchdown. This milestone meant he has surpassed Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez, who spent 12 seasons with the Chiefs between 1997 and 2008.
While Swift was not spotted at Pennsylvania’s Acrisure Stadium to watch Kelce help the Chiefs win 29-10 in close to freezing temperatures, she made her presence felt online by engaging with social media posts celebrating Kelce’s achievement.
Newsweek emailed spokespeople for Kelce and Swift for comment on Thursday outside of normal business hours.
One of the posts Swift liked was from the Chiefs’ official Instagram account, featuring a graphic of Kelce and his impressive stats. The caption read, “If you ever can’t find Travis, chances are he’s in the end zone. Congrats, @killatrav!” Fans quickly noticed Swift’s interaction, with the Swiftie-run X account (formerly Twitter) @thisisvertrying sharing a screenshot of her like and captioning it: “Taylor tuned in.”
Another post the pop superstar liked was when the NFL Instagram account shared a photo that showed off Kelce’s achievement with the caption: “milestones this Xmas for @killatrav.”
The same X account shared a screenshot of Swift liking this post and added: “she’s on a mission today i guess.” The post went viral, racking up over 140,000 views at the time of writing.
Swift also liked a post from New Heights, the podcast the football star cohosts with his brother Jason Kelce, that also celebrated Kelce’s record.
Kelce spoke of the achievement in a postgame interview, when he said: “It’s everything to me. Tony’s [Gonzalez] been a mentor to me, he’s been there right there for me [with] any questions I’ve ever had.
“I feel like I’m still trying to fill that guy’s shoes. He’s such an unbelievable competitor and I’ve got so much love for him. It’s an honor to be in conversations with him.”
A History of Support
Though Swift wasn’t seen this year, she was famously by Kelce’s side during last year’s Christmas game when the Chiefs lost to the Las Vegas Raiders 20-14.
Following the game, Kansas City Star photojournalist Nick Wagner posted a picture of Swift and Kelce holding hands in a corridor at Missouri’s Arrowhead Stadium to social media.
“Spent my Christmas waiting for these two lovebirds,” Wagner captioned the post on his Instagram Story. He also uploaded the same snap to his Instagram feed where added the caption: “Merry Swiftmas to all who celebrate.”
Kelce reflected on the memorable holiday during an episode of his podcast, sharing that Swift’s younger brother, Austin Swift, dressed as Santa Claus for the occasion.
“He killed it,” Swift enthused as he praised Austin Swift’s gift-giving skills. “He actually made me feel like a child because his gift to me was straight out of the bag.”
Kelce further shared that Austin Swift “handed me a VHS of my favorite football movie of all time: Little Giants. I got a VHS Little Giants movie.”
The loved up couple has sparked an avalanche of headlines since embarking on their romance last year. In July 2023, Kelce was seen attending Swift’s concert at Arrowhead Stadium, his team’s home venue. Since then, the tight end as been in the crowd at numerous Eras Tour concerts, and Swift has been spotted in the VIP suit at multiple Chiefs games.
