Team USA Legend Mike Eruzione Breaks Silence on Gold Medal Wins Over Canada

Just three days ago the United States women’s hockey team emptied its net with just over two minutes to play in the gold medal game against Canada, scored to tie the game at one and force overtime and then delivered the game-winning goal in a fraught three-on-three affair to take home the gold medal.

Three days later, the United States men’s hockey team took the favored Canadians into overtime and, just like the women’s team, delivered a knockout punch in overtime to win its first gold medal since 1980. Both the men’s and women’s teams won their third gold medal, though the men’s team has been playing since 1920 and the women’s competition only joined the Olympics 78 years later in 1998.

One of the men who won the last gold medal for the U.S. hockey team, captain Mike Eruzione, couldn’t contain his excitement with the latest additions to the legacy of American hockey.

In a post on social media, Eruzione congratulated both the men’s and women’s teams on their accomplishments at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.

“What a great Olympic games are men’s and women’s hockey teams congratulations to the men and our women on achieving the ultimate dream and winning a gold medal. How sweet and how nice it was to be here and to watch both your teams accomplished that,” he said.

Eruzione previously called his shot when he congratulated those who were announced as competitors for the United States earlier this month.

“Congratulations to all of the players selected to play in Milan. It’s a great honor to represent your country and can’t wait to see the gold medal brought back to the United States,” he said.

Now both the men’s and women’s teams have brought gold back to the United States.
