Tears at Why Bride’s Father-Daughter Dance at Wedding ‘Looks a Little Different’
When it comes to father-daughter dances, what you see it was you get. But not in this case.
Morgan, who asked for her last name not to be published, posted a reel on Instagram dancing with her dad at her wedding with a little addition—her stepdaughter.
“My now husband had a 3- and 4-year-old when we got married. During the dinner and speeches, they were both sitting on our laps, and neither wanted to get up,” she told Newsweek.
When it was time for the father-daughter dance, Morgan prepared to join her dad but paused to explain to her stepdaughter, who calls her “Momo,” what was about to happen. She asked her stepmom if she could come: “I don’t want to leave you.”
For Morgan, the answer was immediate. “Yes, absolutely. Come join me. So, I told my dad and he was beyond happy about it. [He] danced not only with me but his new granddaughter,” she said.
The stepmom of two described it as one of her most cherished memories and will remain engraved in her mind forever.
“No one dreams about becoming a stepmom, but God put such a wonderful man with such incredible little sweeties in my life, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I always say that my wedding day made my life three times better from my husband and his two children. Every closed door in my life finally made sense,” she said.
Morgan, who goes by @purely.mo on Instagram, gained 1 million views on her clip and wrote in the text overlay: “When your father daughter dance at your wedding looks a little different.” Many other Instagram users called the reel “beautiful” and had nothing but love for the grandfather.
“I need to stop crying for strangers on this app. This is so heartwarming I hope he gets to dance with her on her wedding day,” one wrote. “The way he’s holding his daughter and his new granddaughter,” another said. “What a beautiful thing to be your stepchild’s safe space,” commented a third.
Becoming a stepmom has been a joy for Morgan. As someone who’s always wanted a big family, she explained how the media can paint a negative picture of the evil stepmother often depicted in Disney movies.
“That’s just not how it has played out for me. Now having my own children with my husband and filling our house, it’s been even more incredible. Our house is filled to the brim with love, and I treat them as if they are my own,” she said.
