Texans HC Provides Injury Update on RB Joe Mixon After Suffering Injury vs Bears

The Houston Texans grabbed their second win of the new season on Sunday Night Football against the Chicago Bears, winning by a score of 19-13. It wasn’t the prettiest game for Houston but they found a way to get the victory.

Within the game, the Texans all held a collective breath when running back Joe Mixon went down with an injury. It happened during the game on what looked like a hip-drop tackle. The NFL has banned hip-drop tackles from game play but nothing was called on Chicago.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans provided an injury update on the status of Mixon.

“Joe got rolled up. The guy’s weight definitely came down on his ankle. Didn’t look good from my view. We’ll evaluate Joe throughout the week. Hopefully he’s okay. Have to see the film and see if it was really a hip drop tackle.”

After the game, Mixon took to social media to criticize the NFL for the rule. Like many, he felt that the new rule was pointless if they weren’t going to penalize teams for doing it.

“The NFL and NFLPA made it a rule and an emphasis for a reason. Time to put your money where your mouth is.”

The hope is that Mixon will be okay and he just got bruised in the line of play. But he wasn’t the only player on Sunday who felt they were hit with a hip-drop tackle.

Former teammate Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals also felt as if the Kansas City Chiefs hit him with one too. Chase was given an unsportsmanlike penalty in the late stages of the game for verbally going after a referee for not making the call.

The referee revealed that Chase felt he was victim to a hip-drop tackle, sparking the unusual anger from the wide receiver.

“We informed him that we did not feel it was a hip-drop tackle,” referee Alex Kemp said of the Chase play.

All in all, Chicago did a good job limiting the Texans running game, keeping Mixon to only 25 rushing yards on nine carries. In Week 1, Houston ran all over the Indianapolis Colts, with Mixon grabbing 159 yards on the ground.

Houston will monitor their running back throughout the week and see what his status is for Week 3 when they travel to face the Minnesota Vikings.
